How card payments work at checkout
- The customer enters their card number, expiry date, and CVV
- Nomod submits the payment to the card network for authorisation
- If required, the customer completes a 3D Secure (3DS) authentication step, which is usually a one-time code sent by their bank
- The payment is authorised or declined in real time
- If authorised, Nomod marks the order as paid, and the customer sees a confirmation
Declined payments
Card payments can be declined for several reasons, including insufficient funds, incorrect card details, card restrictions, or the bank flagging the transaction as suspicious. Nomod displays a generic decline message to the customer and prompts them to try a different card or payment method.
Troubleshooting
A payment was declined: Ask the customer to check that their card details are correct and that the card has not expired. If the details are correct, the decline is likely coming from their bank. Ask them to contact their card issuer directly or try a different payment method.
3D Secure is not completing: If the customer does not receive a one-time code from their bank, ask them to check that their registered mobile number is up to date with their bank. If the issue persists, they should contact their bank directly.
A refund has not been received: Refund processing time depends on the customer's card issuer. If the customer has not received their refund after ten business days, contact our support team.
